For close to ten years, the Women Support Women Project has been active in setting up and supporting a mentoring programme, aimed specifically at women parenting alone. Our project is the outcome of local voluntary groups of women coming together, sharing a philosophy of anti poverty work and community empowerment.
Many parents forego educational opportunities and as a result have diminished chances of integrating in the labour market. A team of community women have undergone training in providing one to one support for parents. These women will work with parents in the area, listening, supporting, giving feedback, offering suggestions and advice.
We hope to add support systems of the extended family and build up communities from the inside out.
